You usually pay for a home inspection before or on the day of the inspection. Most inspectors require payment upfront or at the time of service. This allows them to release the official inspection report without delay.
Since the inspection is ordered for the buyer’s benefit, the cost is not added to closing costs — it’s paid directly to the inspector.
